Can I Start or Continue Pilates During My Pregnancy?
If you are wondering what exercises are safe when you are pregnant, these classes are specifically designed for you. Pilates is an excellent way to exercise in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Not only does Pregnancy Pilates help you maintain your fitness and strength, it also helps strengthen the pelvic floor, which helps you during the months of pregnancy, as well as helping prepare your body for the birth. After your baby has been born, postnatal Pilates is an excellent way to get back in shape.

How Are Pregnancy Pilates Classes Different From Regular Pilates?
Fully qualified instructors who are knowledgeable about pregnancy, and are very gentle and caring, too, run our Pregnancy Pilates classes. They work alongside our specialist team of consultants and therapists. Not only will attending the classes benefit you physically, but you will find they provide a great psychological boost and emotional support.
When Can I Start? I’m New To Pilates.
If you haven’t been exercising or are new to Pilates, you can begin Pregnancy Pilates classes during your second trimester. In your first trimester, your priority is to rest as much as you are able. The changes your body is going through may make you feel fatigued, especially if you are keeping up a busy lifestyle. Gentle exercise is fine, but give your body time to adjust before beginning Pilates.

I’m Already Doing Pilates. Can I Continue When Pregnant?
If you are familiar with exercise there is no harm in starting Pregnancy Pilates classes or 1-2-1 Pregnancy Pilates instruction in your first trimester, so long as you are not too tired. By the second trimester you are likely to have lots of energy, so make the most of it by practicing Pilates to lay down the foundations for the months ahead.
How About Pregnancy Pilates In Late Pregnancy?
In your third trimester you will be feeling progressively heavy and you are almost certainly coping with various aches and pains, but it is now that you should be able to really appreciate the benefits of Pregnancy Pilates classes. They will help you with your posture, prepare you for the birth, and enhance your postnatal recovery.
You can usually resume Pilates classes around six weeks following a natural birth
though please check with your doctor first. Sara Randall, our specialist midwife osteopath, is available to advise you on this, as well.
