About Pregnancy Physiotherapy
During pregnancy your body goes through many changes which can disrupt your daily life. While a certain amount of discomfort is to be expected, sometimes the pain can become severe. When this happens physiotherapy can help.
Mothers-to-be frequently suffer from back pain and joint pain. Pelvic pain is also fairly common and is generally caused by what is medically known as symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD). This is when your front or back pelvic joints become misaligned which happens in around one in five pregnant women.
Physiotherapy can help alleviate all these symptoms through a range of exercises designed to improve mobility and strengthen the supporting muscles.
In the case of SPD, physiotherapy can be used to ensure that the joints in your hip, pelvis and spine can move normally. Our physiotherapist can also provide exercises designed to strengthen the muscles of you back, hip, stomach and pelvic floor as well as advising you on measures you can take to minimise discomfort.
As well as addressing your current needs, our physiotherapists can help you prepare for the stress of labour and help you to get back in shape after your baby is born.
